Melted swiss cheese, strawberry preserves
Some things just make sense. Chocolate and peanut butter for example, bacon and... anything, and some things make no sense whatsoever... take the Moon Dog for instance... . It seems like something some high school stoner cooked up in his mom's house some saturday night when he and his friends had the munchies: "dudes, all we have are some hot dogs, strawberry jam, and swiss cheese" in between bong rips, and through the haze, a voice says "put 'em all together, man" and the Moon Dog was born. That HAS TO be it, that or space aliens.
Whoever or whatever created the Moon Dog I would like to commend them.
Seeing it listed on the menu among other "regular" hot dogs, I was confused, yet curious... my thinking was that if its on the menu, some one must have eaten it at some point (and liked it enough to make it a permanent menu item), and I enjoy all of the components separately (well, I am on the fence about swiss cheese) so who knows... maybe it works.. I took the plunge. You only live once, plus, its not like its bull testicles or anything (to the best of my knowledge) so whats the big deal?
well, it's DELICIOUS.
its pretty simple in its creation, dog, split down the center, grilled, swiss cheese melted in between, then its dropped into a bun thats been liberally doused with strawberry preserves.
Right off the bat, the strawberry preserves jump out, and its almost like a "dessert hot dog" which is weird, but then the hot dog steps up, not to be outdone, and reminds you just how well salty & sweet things work together.
I think swiss cheese is disgusting... Let me elaborate... swiss cheese, cold and by itself is terrible... that is just a fact. When you melt swiss cheese, however, its pungent disgusting nightmare flavor gets mellowed out and it melts beautifully... added to the Moon Dog, it offers itself as a perfect textural sidekick to the sweet and salty onslaught of hot dog and strawberry, rounding out one of the best hot dogs on the Hot Diggity Dog menu.
Some may disagree with me (strongly even), and thats okay, we don't all have to agree on everything... I would urge you (all non-veg people) to at least try this hot dog. sure its weird, but lots of things are weird, that doesn't mean they are not AWESOME as well.
